This week is officially the first week of autumn and with it the cold and longer days begin. Also, with the arrival of autumn we begin to say goodbye (for now) to the outdoor pool season.
Now, the fact that summer has come to an end doesn’t mean that we must leave the maintenance of the pool water aside. In fact, you could say that it’s even more important to carry out maintenance of the pool water during this time as it is when more dirt is accumulated after the season of good weather.
For many years, carrying out the maintenance of the pool water after summer was a very tedious task. Now, in recent years -and thanks to saline electrolysis- it’s become popular what we call pool hibernation to keep the water in good condition during the cold months.
Do you know what steps to take so the pool hibernation process is effective?
1. Do a full revision of the pool
Once the pool season is over, the first step you would have to follow is do a full revision of the pool; its structure and its water. In this way we can make sure that there are no leaks, cracks, or damage in the installation.
2. Carry out a deep cleaning
After the summer months, it’s normal if there is accumulated dirt in the pool water; from sunscreen residue, to leaves and/or dirt debris that may be floating in the water. It is important to remove these remains from the water, as well as to perform a water disinfection treatment.
3. Leave the salt chlorination system active
The salt chlorination system is designed so it can keep the pool water in excellent conditions without much effort as it works automatically. For this reason, it is important that during the cold months the chlorinator is kept active to prevent dirt from accumulating. The filtration system would have to run for at least half an hour a day depending on the water temperature.
4. Adjust the pH levels
After the summer, when it is more difficult to control the pH levels in the water, adjusting them and leaving them balanced will help prevent green algae from coming out during the months of disuse. The ideal pH levels are between 7,2 and 7,6.
5. Keep the pool covered
During the autumn and winter months, more precipitation and weather changes usually occur that can affect the water in the pool. Therefore, it is advisable to use a cover for the pool in case it is outdoors. This will also help prevent the water from freezing if the temperatures are very cold.
Don’t let pool maintenance during cold months be a burden. Trust BSPool and salt chlorination; this way you can enjoy your pool in good conditions once the good weather returns without having to invest too much time and effort.
